What is Daypro?
Daypro belongs to a class of drugs known as non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
What is Daypro used for?
Daypro is indicated for the treatment of pain and inflammation in the body caused by arthritis.
How does Daypro work?
Daypro works by lessening the number/ amount of pain and inflammation causing hormones in the body.
How to use Daypro
Take Daypro exactly as directed on the label, or as it has been prescribed by your doctor. Do not use Daypro in larger amounts or for longer period than recommended by the doctor.
The medicine is usually taken orally, once daily, with a full glass of water. You can take it with or without food. If taking the medicine on an empty stomach causes upset stomach, then take it with food, milk or antacid.
After taking the medicine, sit straight for at least 30 minutes, do not lie down.
Daypro warnings and precautions
Do not use Daypro if you are allergic to oxaprozin, aspirin or other NSAIDs. Do not use Daypro immediately after or prior to having heart bypass surgery (CABG or coronary artery bypass graft)
If you have a history of heart attack, strokes, blood clot, congestive heart failure, heart disease, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers or bleeding, liver or kidney disease, nose polyps, asthma, diverticulosis, or bowel problems, consult your doctor and have the dose altered to suit your medical condition.
Avoid smoking and drinking while you are under this medication.
Pregnant and lactating women are advised to not use this medicine as it may cause birth defects in the child or harm a nursing child as it is known to pass through the breast milk.
Do not give Daypro to a child who is less than 6 years of age, unless prescribed by the doctor.
What do I do if I have missed a Daypro dose?
If you have missed a Daypro dose, take it as soon as you remember and skip the missed dose if it is time for the next dose.
What do I do if I have taken a Daypro overdose?
If you have taken a Daypro overdose, you should contact your doctor immediately.
Daypro interactions
Inform your doctor if you are taking antidepressants like citalopram, duloxetine, escitalopram, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline, venlafaxine. Using any of these with Daypro may cause easy bruising and bleeding.
Before taking Daypro, tell your doctor about all prescription and non prescription drugs that you are on; especially if you use blood thinners, lithium, steroids, cyclosporine, aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, Diclofenac, Indomethacin, piroxicam etc.
Daypro side effects
Get urgent medical help if you experience hives, breathing trouble, or swelling on the lips, face, tongue or throat. These side effects of Daypro must be given immediate attention.
Stop taking Daypro and seek medical attention if you have any of these serious side effects from Daypro: chest pain, feeling short of breath, slurred speech, vision problems, bloody or tarry stools, problems with balance, coughing up blood, nausea, stomach ache, loss of appetite, dark colored urine and stools, jaundice, fever, headache, sore throat, red skin rash, bruising, tingly feeling, numbness, and pain in the body.
Less serious Daypro side effects may include upset stomach, stomach ache, mild heartburn, gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, headache, dizziness, nervousness, skin itching, ringing in the ears, or blurred vision.
