What is Cyclocort?

Cyclocort is a strong topical corticosteroid that helps reduce redness, inflammation and swelling of the skin.

What is Cyclocort used for?

Cyclocort is indicated for the treatment of various skin conditions such as allergies, psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis etc. It reduces the inflammation and swelling on the skin associated with these skin conditions.

How does Cyclocort work?

Cyclocort works by reducing the action of certain chemicals that are responsible for inflammation, redness, swelling and itching on the skin.

How to use Cyclocort

Use Cyclocort in the manner prescribed by the doctor. Read the instruction leaflet very carefully before taking the drug. Do not take the medicine for longer period or in larger amount than prescribed.

Before applying the medication, wash your hands properly. Clean and dry the affected area. While using the lotion form of the medicine, shake the bottle well before use. Apply a thin layer of the medicine on to the affected area of the skin and rub the skin. The medicine is usually used 2-3 times daily on the infected area. Do not cover the infected skin areas with bandage until asked by the doctor.

Use Cyclocort regularly to get the most benefit.

Cyclocort warnings and precautions

Do not take Cyclocort if you are allergic to any of its ingredients such as amcinonide. The medication may contain certain ingredients which are inactive and may cause allergic reactions or other problems. If there is an infection or sore present in the area do not use Cyclocort.

Consult your doctor, if you observe any signs of bacterial or fungal infection within 2 weeks of using Cyclocort topical medication.

Steroid gets absorbed in larger amount through skin which can increase the glucose (sugar) levels in your blood or urine. Avoid using medicine for longer duration in case of children as it slows down the growth rate and affect the adult height.

Pregnant and lactating women should not take this medication as it is known to cause birth defects and may even harm a nursing infant.

What do I do if I have missed a Cyclocort dose?

If you have missed a Cyclocort dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue the routine.

What do I do if I have taken a Cyclocort overdose?

If you have taken an overdose of Cyclocort, consult your doctor right away.

Cyclocort interactions

Some drugs are known to interact with Cyclocort when used in tandem with it. The doctor should be informed of any other medication that you are taking, especially if you are taking drugs like orally taken corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), drugs that lower the immune system (e.g., cyclosporine) and other over the counter drugs.

Also mention to your doctor if you are on any kind of herbal medication or taking any vitamins or minerals. Do not start taking any new medicine without consulting your doctor.

Cyclocort side effects

Side effects from Cyclocort include burning, itching, irritation, or dryness at the application site, Folliculitis, blurred vision, or seeing halos around lights, Purpura, Skin and Skin Structure Infection, Skin Atrophy, mood changes, sleep problems (insomnia), weight gain, Telangiectasia , puffiness in your face, muscle weakness, or feeling tired. If you experience any of these side effects, contact your doctor immediately.

Mild skin rash, thinning or softening of your skin, skin rash or irritation around your mouth, stinging of skin, swollen hair follicles, changes in color of treated skin, blisters, pimples, crusting of treated skin, or stretch marks are less severe side effects of Cyclocort.
