What is Caverject?
Caverject is an intra urethral containing aprostadil as the inherent form of prostaglandin. It comes in the form of a syringe finder and as a suppository.
What is Caverject used for?
Caverject is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and sometimes is also used for diagnosing the exact nature of impotence. It is to be noted that the medicine is not meant for women and children.
How does Caverject work?
Caverject consists of aprostadil that helps in increasing the blood flow in the penis to attain and sustain an erection.
How to use Caverject
To use Caverject, you must follow the instructions of your doctor and read the information leaflet carefully.
Caverject must be administered only by a qualified medical professional for the first time. From there on you can take charge after he trains you to inject the medicine yourself.
Before injecting the medicine, wash your hands and clean the site with rubbing alcohol. Wash hands again and avoid a site with visible veins. Inject the medicine and press the area with a clean alcohol swab for at least 5minutes to avoid bruising.
Remember to keep changing the injection site every time in order to avoid unnecessary complications.
Do not use Caverject for more than three times a week. To use more than one dose of Caverject, keep an interval period of 24 hours between two doses.
Caverject warnings and precautions
Do not use Caverject until you are sure that you are not allergic to its ingredients. Also, this medication is not to be used if you have an unusually formed penis or have had a penile implant.
Before using Caverject, inform your doctor about your medical history especially if you underwent erectile disorders before, angulations, fibrosis, Peyronie’s disease and blood system cancers like leukemia, multiple myeloma and sickle cell anemia.
Dispose of the used syringe effectively to avoid any kind of spreading of infection among other people.
Use effective contraceptive measures during sexual intercourse to avoid infections like gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B, etc.
What do I do if I have missed a Caverject dose?
Since you are not on a dosing schedule, it does not matter if you miss a dose.
What do I do if I have taken a Caverject overdose?
If you take an overdose of Caverject, seek immediate medical attention.
Caverject interactions
It is always better to consult a doctor and discuss about the pros and cons of using other medicines in tandem with Caverject. This will help the doctor in prescribing the exact amount of medicine needed for your treatment.
Prior to taking this drug, inform your doctor if you are taking blood thinners like warfarin, heparin, etc.
Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine before seeking your doctor’s permission.
Caverject side effects
You might experience some minor side effects from Caverject like slight bleeding at the injection site or pain and irritation on or near the site. If these conditions persist, inform your doctor promptly.
Caverject does not generally have serious side effects but tell your doctor if you experience redness, discoloration on the penile head, extremely low blood pressure, burning sensation, tenderness, swelling in the penis. If there is lump formation and unusual curving of the penis consult your doctor immediately.
If you have a very long lasting erection after the use of Caverject, discontinue its use. Other serious Caverject side effects can include allergic reactions like hives, itching and swelling in the mouth and throat, severe dizziness, and breathing troubles.
