What is Betoptic S?
Betoptic S is a topical drug that is an adrenergenic beta blocker.
What is Betoptic S used for?
Betoptic S is used to lower the intraocular pressure in chronic open-angle glaucoma patients and various other disorders that rise due to high pressure inside the eye.
How does Betoptic S work?
Betoptic S works by hindering the production of a liquid inside the eye, which is called aqueous humor, thus lowering the pressure inside the eye and preventing blindness.
How to use Betoptic S
Betoptic S should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use this medication in larger amounts or for longer duration, than recommended.
Make sure that before using Betoptic S, you wash your hands properly. Tilt your head backwards and pull your lower eyelid with a finger, squeeze the dropper to pour the drops into the eye, and then close your eyes for at least two minutes.
You can gently place your finger at the corner of the eye for a minute, to avoid the drops to come out from the eye. If you are using any other eye medication, wait for sometime after using this medicine.
Regular usage of the medicine will be beneficial for the patient.
Betoptic S warnings and precautions
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have been suffering from any other eye disorder or have had any surgery before.
While you are on medication of Betoptic S, you must be cautious while driving, because this drug can cause blurring of vision.
Betoptic S is not to be used while your contact lenses are on. Even after the usage of this medicine, do not wear your lenses for the next 15 minutes.
The dropper should not touch the surface of your eye or hands; else, it becomes infected and can cause harm.
Also, if you notice any change in the color of the liquid or any particles in it, do not use it.
What do I do if I have missed a Betoptic S dose?
If you have missed your Betoptic S dose, you should use it as soon as you remember, but do not take the missed dose if it’s time for the next one.
What do I do if I have taken a Betoptic S overdose?
If you have taken a Betoptic S overdose, you should immediately consult your doctor.
Betoptic S interactions
There are several drugs that can interact with Betoptic S, such as oral betaxolol, insulin or orally taken diabetes medicines, other beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, and medicines for psychiatric disorders.
Therefore, these drugs should not be taken in tandem with Betoptic S.
One must not use any other eye medications before consulting their doctor. If prescribed, use them at a gap of at least 10 minutes from the usage of Betoptic S.
Betoptic S side effects
If the usage of Betoptic S results in any kind of allergy like hives, breathing trouble, swelling on face or lips, consult the doctor without delay.
There can be some serious side effects from Betoptic S like swelling, itching, burning, redness, pain or uneasiness in or around the eye, drainage, crusting or oozing of eyes or eyelids, bronchospasm, shallow breathing, and a lot of weight gain. One must immediately consult the doctor if such symptoms persist after taking the medicine.
There are also some minor side effects of Betoptic S, like blurred vision, changing sense or taste or smell, muscle weakness, insomnia, depression, spinning sensation and dizziness; and puffy or dry eyes. Do not ignore these signs and ask your doctor for further guidance.
