What is Antirobe Aquadrops?

What is Antirobe? Antirobe for cats and dogs is an oral medication (clindamycin hydrochloride) in the lincosamide class of antibiotics. What is Antirobe used for? It is indicated to treat infections in cats and dogs. It is particularly effective in treating dental infections, as well as infections of the skin and other soft tissue. It is also is indicated to treat infections of the bone, in dogs only. It is not intended for use in other animals or in humans. How does Antirobe work? Both Antirobe for cats and Antirobe for dogs inhibit protein synthesis of bacteria at the cellular level.


How to use Antirobe Aquadrops

Antirobe is available in two forms: liquid Antirobe Aquadrops, which may be used in both cats and dogs, and capsule form, which is intended for dogs only. Either form should be given orally. Recommended dosages of Antirobe for Cats -- Aquadrops: To treat dental infections and soft-tissue/skin abscesses: Depending on the severity of the condition, dosages range from 1 to 3 mL per 5 pounds of body weight, and should be given once daily (every 24 hours) for 3 to 4 days initially. If the cat's condition has improved, treatment may be continued for up to 14 days; however, if no improvement is noted, treatment with Antirobe for cats should be discontinued. Recommended dosages of Antirobe for Dogs -- Aquadrops: To treat dental infections and soft-tissue/skin abscesses: Depending on the severity of the condition, dosages range from 1 to 6 mL per 10 pounds of body weight, and should be given twice daily (every 12 hours) for 3 to 4 days initially. If the dog's condition has improved, treatment may be continued for up to 28 days; however, if no improvement is noted, treatment with Antirobe for dogs should be discontinued. To treat infections of the bone (osteomyelitis): Depending on the severity of the condition, dosages range from 2 to 6 mL per 10 pounds of body weight, and should be given twice daily (every 12 hours) for 28 days. Recommended dosages for Antirobe capsules: Capsules are available in four strengths, ranging from 25 mg to 300 mg per capsule, and are intended for dogs only; Antirobe for cats is not available in capsule form. Antirobe for Dogs -- Capsules: To treat dental infections and soft-tissue/skin abscesses: (1 to 6) 25-mg capsules for each 10 pounds of body weight OR (1 to 6) 75-mg capsules for each 30 pounds of body weight OR (1 to 6) 150-mg capsules for each 60 pounds of body weight OR (1 to 6) 300-mg capsules for each 120 pounds of body weight Dose should be given twice daily, at 12-hour intervals. Antirobe Aquadrops warnings and precautions

This medication should not be given to cats or dogs known to be allergic or hypersensitive to clindamycin or lincomycin. Animals with kidney or liver disease should be dosed conservatively, and their serum clindamycin levels should be closely monitored. Antirobe should be not be used on the skin or near the eyes. If Antirobe Aquadrops should come into contact with the skin, wash with water; in the case of eye contact, flush with water for 15 minutes. Antirobe Aquadrops may cause staining on clothing/materials.


What do I do if I have missed a Antirobe Aquadrops dose?

If a dose is not given at the prescribed 12- or 24-hour interval, it should be given as close to it as possible; however, double-doses should be avoided unless expressly recommended by the treating veterinarian. In case of accidental overdose, a veterinarian should be contacted immediately.


Antirobe Aquadrops interactions

Animals taking other neuromuscular blocking agents should be dosed cautiously and closely monitored. It is not recommended that Antirobe be taken with other antibiotics.


Antirobe Aquadrops side effects

As with most antibiotics, Antirobe may cause gastrointestinal upset and/or yeast imbalances leading to diarrhea. Should this occur, consultation with a veterinarian is recommended.
