What is Aldactazide?

Aldactazide is a combination of spironolactone and hydrochlorothiazide which are diuretics effective in treating high blood pressure.

What is Aldactazide used for?

Aldactazide helps the body lower high blood pressure and avert the risk of heart strokes, heart failure, kidney and liver diseases. It treats edema or excess absorption of salt by the body. It has also been known to alleviate low potassium levels in the body.

The medicine regulates the pressure on the blood and keeps the arteries functioning without problems.

How does Aldactazide work?

Aldactazide consists of spironolactone and hydrochlorothiazide that together increase the amount of water in the body, making it pass through the urine, while Spironolactone replenishes the lost potassium in the body.

How to use Aldactazide

Take the medicine in the manner prescribed by your doctor. Taking it for longer period or in larger amount than recommended can cause health problems.

You are advised to take the Aldactazide tablet orally, with a full glass of water. It is best to take the Aldactazide tablet at least four hours before bed time in order to avoid night time interruption in sleep. To gain best results, take the medicine daily, preferably at the same time.

Aldactazide warnings and precautions

Do not take Aldactazide if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, or if you have severe kidney disease, anuria or hyperkalemia.

Check with your doctor, before you take Aldactazide, if you have a medical history of kidney and liver diseases, high levels of fats and triglycerides in the blood, mineral imbalance, folic acid deficiency and acidosis, gout and lupus.

Avoid a high sodium diet. Do not take sodium substitutes while you are under this medication as it can increase potassium levels in the body. Do not take any steroid alongside Aldactazide. Limit potassium rich foods.

Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and overheating of the body due to rigorous exercise.

Aldactazide can make you feel dizzy and there can be blurring of vision; you are advised not to take up any attention demanding work while you are under the medication period of Aldactazide. Avoid alcohol at all costs.

It must not be given to pregnant and lactating mothers as it can harm an unborn or nursing child.

What do I do if I have missed a Aldactazide dose?

If you have missed an Aldactazide dose, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take more of the medicine to make up for the loss.

What do I do if I have taken a Aldactazide overdose?

If you have taken an overdose of Aldactazide, consult your doctor.
